EMDR Intensives
What is EMDR?
EMDR therapy is a comprehensive evidence-based psychotherapy that works to help individuals process and heal from traumatic memories and other distressing life experiences. EMDR empowers clients to access specific aspects of disturbing memories that cause clients continued distress, then uses bilateral stimulation of the brain (through eye moments, auditory, or tactile means) to reduce the distress and allow for a new and more integrated understanding.
Who is EMDR good for?
EMDR therapy is useful and extensively researched in treating PTSD and other trauma-related disorders. Ongoing research supports positive clinical outcomes of EMDR therapy as a useful treatment for disorders such as anxiety, depression, chronic pain, addictions, compulsive behaviors, and other distressing life experiences.
What is an EMDR Intensive?
The EMDR Intensive Therapy program is tailored specifically to your needs, ensuring we optimize the therapeutic process and make the most of your resources. It is designed to maximize progress and achieve results in a condensed timeframe. It is focused, time-limited therapy for clients who want an immersive experience to focus deeply on a specific area, rather than trying to address everything at once.
The EMDR Intensive Therapy can be conducted in two different ways:
Multiple Consecutive Days: This involves consecutive days of therapy, ranging from 4-6 hours per day. By dedicating uninterrupted time to the therapeutic process, we can delve deep into the work, accelerating your progress and promoting transformative change.
Ongoing Clusters: Alternatively, we can organize therapy sessions in 4-hour clusters. These clusters can be scheduled to suit your availability and allow for ongoing treatment while still achieving the benefits of an intensive approach.
EMDR intensives can be powerful, but the experience is unique to each client. Sometimes, progress occurs rapidly, with deep insights and healing experienced immediately; other times, it may develop more gradually. Both experiences are perfectly acceptable, and there is no right or wrong way to proceed. As we work together, we may uncover unexpected themes that require attention and have collaborative conversations to focus our time effectively when this happens. While I cannot guarantee specific outcomes, I have confidence in my approach, having witnessed many clients leave with significant shifts in their mood and presenting symptoms.
